Over 200 sailors representing 28 school teams from as far away as Timaru and the Cook Islands are at Algies Bay this week for the Secondary School Team Sailing Nationals. Light winds for the first two days limited racing and required frequent recalls and changes of course.
At the end of the first round robin Kerikeri High are in the lead closely followed by Christchurch Boys, Lindisfarne and St Kentigern College, with Westlake Boys and home team Mahurangi one point behind.
The beautiful scow Jane Gifford is in attendance as changeover boat.
Team Sailing, with fully umpired short intense races, and pooled boats with frequent changes, needs a large support team, and the New Zealand Team Sailing Association, Sandspit Yacht Club and the regional Team Sailing organizations have once again delivered a small army of experienced volunteers to help with the event.
