Three Peaks Race - Row Row Row Your Boat

Mobile Travel Agents Big Wave Rider rows away from the start - H&R Block Three Peaks Race 2012 Paul Scambler
H&R Block Three Peaks Race - With the morning's light southerly dying, and the sea breeze not penetrating to the Beauty Point start line, contestants were forced to row and pedal their way north towards Bass Strait.

Team Whistler Sport (Thompson 920) with two sets of oars, powered through the fleet to win the start. Within three miles, aided by an outgoing tide, the leaders met the sea breeze and the race was on. Whistler Sport maintained their advantage to be first out of Low Head farewelled by the fog horn at Low Head light.

Low cloud and fog blanketed Bass Strait with the aerial photographer forced to search for the yachts.

After four hours three 46' catamarans were vying for the lead, Peccadillo - the defending champion from Melbourne, Deguello from Hobart and Mobile Travel Agents Big Wave Rider from Mooloolaba with solo circumnavigator Jessica Watson in the crew.

Close by are leading monohulls Advantedge (Inglis 47) and Centro Euro Wines (Sydney 38).

Team Whistler Sport and UK Peaks Challenge - the race within the race between Geoff West's English team and friend David Rees' Whistler Sport crew from Hobart - were sailing close together with no obvious advantage.

A strong westerly is expected later tonight which will speed the yachts towards Lady Three Peaks Race website
