‘Riverside Avalon’ is the latest vessel to be built by Marine Engineering Consultants. The 24 metre Fast Ferry Catamaran was built in a record time of just 7 months. She was designed by Incat Crowther for Gladstone Ferry Company (Riverside Marine) to ferry workers from Gladstone Marina to the LNG plant on Curtis Island.
Arctic Steel water strainers were chosen to supply clean sea water to cool the two Yanmar 610kw engines. The twin Yanmar AYM-WET engines provide a maximum speed of 25 knots, cruising speed of 22 knots. The 4' Arctic Steel 316 cast strainers were selected because of their superior quality and their new lid system, which makes it easier, quicker and safer to access and clean.
Built to NSCV 1D/1C survey, it was important for engineers to select the best equipment to ensure reliability.
The unique electro polish finish of the new Arctic Steel product means a far superior resistance against corrosion than ordinary 316 stainless steel. The two Isuzu Generators also draw their cooling water through smaller 2.5' Arctic Steel strainers.
‘Riverside Avalon’ was built with all the creature comforts you would expect from a luxury vessel, including Wi-Fi internet, five LCD TV’s, Foxtel, CCTV, Audio system and Air Conditioned throughout. Once the vessel has completed its contract in Gladstone, she is designed and surveyed to be used in the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks.
By selecting only the best equipment for construction, Marine Engineering Consultants have built a quality vessel that will certainly see many years of service.
