Mercury powers the podium at Daiwa Bream Australian Open

No.1 Breamer Russell Babekuhl Mercury Marine
Mercury powered boats have totally dominated the winners list at the Daiwa BREAM Australian Open held on Sydney Harbour.

The top four finishers all had Mercury outboards. In fact, nine of the top 15 anglers were Mercury men.

Super-consistent New South Welshman Ian Seeto took out top honours with a 10.11kg total securing his first ever ABT tournament victory.

While a bag of 9.51kg saw Russell Babekuhl (NSW) finish the Open in second place, the result was good enough to lift him to No.1 in the overall BREAM rankings.

Queensland’s Steve Morgan rounded out the medals with 9.22kgs.

'The Australian Open is one of the toughest events of the year on one of the toughest tournaments venues there is, Sydney Harbour, so anglers look for the toughest and the most reliable equipment they can find,' said tournament director Simon Goldsmith.

'For the majority the choice was a Mercury and the results are up there.'

Interestingly, while Ian and Russell bagged the maximum 15 fish, Steve ended the competition with just 12 legal catches. Thankfully, two of those 12 were among the three Big Bream for the event.

Fourth placed Michael Colotourous (NSW) caught 15 fish for 8.91kgs.
