Last week the China organisers of the 2011 inaugural Macau Yacht Show, Fujian Auto China Conference and Exhibition Co and Fuzhou Auto China Yachts Management Co, announced their latest project - the Wangzi Marina Club and Fuzhou Auto Yachts Sales Centre.

'We believe that Fujian province shows great promise for the development of a leisure marine industry, and boating in general. Geographically, Fuzhou is ideally positioned between Zhujiang, Changjiang and Taiwan,' said Mr Hongguo Wang, Chairman of Fujian Wanzi Yacht Sales Co Ltd.

In 2009, a government report identified Fujian Province as an appropriate place for the encouragement of boating activities, being on the coast of the Taiwan Strait, and in a position to take full advantage of the local natural and cultural resources. In 2011 Fuzhou Municipal Government produced the Overall Plan for Developing Fuzhou Yacht Industry, and this new venture is a direct result of that initiative. 'Fujian Wangzi Yachts Sales Co., Ltd. Is happy to seize such a great opportunity to develop the project of Wangzi Marina Club and Fuzhou Auto Yacht Sales Center. On the basis of yacht sales, berth leasing, exhibition cooperation, it initiates Fuzhou yacht life, introduces the idea of 'Yacht Paradise' into Fuzhou and build up favorable reputation of Fuzhou yacht industry,' said Mr Wang.

09 March will witness the soft open of the first yacht marina in Fuzhou. First stage of the facility is planned to accommodate 20 yachts 80-100 feet and 40 vessels 30-60 feet. Phase 2 of the project will create berthing for more than 200 large or medium-sized yachts. The Wangzi Yacht Marina will provide fuelling facilities, water, electricity and WIFI. It can also have social and entertainment facilities for 100+ guests, a yacht sales centre and meeting rooms.

On the same date (09 March), Fuzhou Auto China Yacht Management Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Fujian Wangzi Yachts Sales Co., Ltd., will open its first Yacht Sales Centre, a facility to promote marketing and sales of a number of boating brand names. Located in the Aofeng area of the northern Minjiang River, the Fuzhou Auto Yacht Sales Centre is being constructed on the site of what used to be the Qingzhou Container Terminal, and will provide land exhibition space of more than 6,000 sq m. The Centre is planned to attract and display more than 100 boat brands from Italy, UK, USA, France, Germany, Australia, and Taiwan. It will be divided into four areas - Import Yacht Brand Exhibition Area, Domestic Yacht Brand Exhibition Area, International Superyacht Exhibition Area, and the Exhibition Area for Motor-boat, Fishing Boats, Fishing Tackles, and Outdoor Leisure Products. It’s all devoted to meeting the clients’ demand for different types and different models of boats. Mr Wang refers to it succinctly as 'a boating supermarket.'

At the same press conference, dates of the 2012 Macau Yacht Show were announced – 1-4 November, at Fisherman’s Wharf, Macau.

Guests present at the press conference included Adriano Pinto Marques, a member of the NZ Business Advisory Commission and Senior VP of Macau Legend Development Co., Ltd., and K. Y. Lee, Senior Business Representative of the Australia Embassy in H.K. & Macau, as well as local government officials.
