by Rob Kothe on 27 Mar 2003
At 5am this morning 2003 Melbourne to Osaka race leader Maverick II was 373 miles north of Fraser Island on track for the eastern tip of the Louisiades. Now 1,434 miles ‘down the pike’ she is well over a quarter way through the race, with a computer predicted 24 days still to race.

Behind her Kontrol, has moved forward as expected and is likely to take second place overall during the day. During the night she sailed through Plantronics Duo Pro but she is still 20 miles behind Racer B leader Lulu and Racer C leader X-Dream.

The fifth member of this bunch is Cruiser B leader Club Marine Wizard.

Team FGI, third in Racer C class is leading the second group. Sailing in perfect down wind conditions, she is abeam the lower tip of New Caledonia and chasing hard to catch the group ahead before they round New Britain and head up towards Guam.

In Cruiser B class, the close tussle continues between Boots and Louise.

At the back of the fleet, the Cookson 12 No Fearr is at last having a straight run.

Now abeam Brisbane, she has caught Naniwa but is still almost 500 miles behind Maverick II
