Corporate Sailing expands on Pittwater

by Al Constable on 13 Mar 2003
Teamsail Australia is attracting great interest from local businesses and multi nationals based in the French’s Forest, Ryde and North Shore districts.

Corporate sailing has long been a fixture on the social and networking calendar of many city-based companies. The fun and excitement on the water, coupled with fine dining and the odd drink or two afterwards, have proved a combination that has seen these events go from strength to strength.

Recognising the popularity of the Harbour events, Teamsail Australia have put together a corporate twilight series on Pittwater to extend the appeal of twilight sailing to those companies based North of the Harbour Bridge.

“ Some people are not aware that twilight racing on Pittwater even exists. On the contrary Pittwater plays host to twilight racing every night of the week during daylight saving time and boasts the largest twilight racing fleet in the Southern Hemisphere run from the Royal motor yacht Club at Newport on a Monday night” said Alec Barrass owner of Teamsail

“Twilight corporate racing allows companies to get involved in a healthy outdoor sport that can help to reward and motivate staff, network with valuable clients and suppliers and associate their business with the desirable things in life!. The camaraderie and atmosphere is infectious,” said Alec

Teamsail is not new to the arena with it’s sister company Pittwater Yacht Charter being established on Pittwater for more than 25 years. “we have been involved in corporate twilight racing informally for the last 5 years with clients chartering a yacht in one of the existing series.

The reaction has been so positive that we would like to formalise our commitment into a series that is tailored specifically to the needs of corporate sailing”

Teamsail Australia operate a fleet of six stunning Sydney 38 One Design racing yachts which are arguably the most exciting and competitive class in the world currently.

These yachts are used for team building, team racing and team development courses during the week, and are regularly chartered to enter prestigious events such as Hamilton Island Race week and other professional match racing events.

The inaugural Pittwater corporate twilight regatta series, starting from the prestigious and scenic Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club in Newport, will be run as two series, one in Spring 2003 (Nov/Dec) and another in Summer 2004 (Feb/Mar). Each series consists of three races plus a final.

The leading three yachts from each regatta proceed to the final. Each race will have six yachts participating, each capable of taking 10 crew plus a skipper and deckhand provided.

“Racing commences at 6.30pm on three consecutive Wednesday evenings with two races run each evening followed by a sunset BBQ dinner on the lawn of the RPAYC.

No sailing experience is necessary as the skipper and deckhand are there to instruct. If you have experience, you will be thrilled to sail a true thoroughbred and if you haven’t, you will be a seasoned crew member by the end of the series!”

Companies will be invited to enter one or more yachts in a series for $4900 per yacht which includes the three Wednesday races for a team of 10 plus dinner afterwards and, if successful, the finals regatta.

A video, digital photos, T-shirt and cap will be provided to all participants. Thus participating companies can entertain 30 (40 if a finalist) clients for only $4900.

Whether recognising staff achievement, team building by stealth or networking with clients - an unforgettable experience at a realistic price.
Sponsorship opportunities exist for the early birds.
