Jean-Pierre Dick was just yesterday elected French Sailor of the Year for 2011 at the Champions’ Night organized by the French Sailing Federation. Isabelle Autissier, President of the Jury, awarded Jean-Pierre the trophy to pay homage to his double-handed wins in both the Barcelona World Race and the 2011 Transat Jacques Vabre. He follows of in the footsteps for windsurfer Antoine Albeau who was honoured back in 2010.
After setting sail in the Transat BtoB, Jean-Pierre Dick was elected 2011 Sailor of the Year at the end of the traditional Champions’ Night. The skipper of the Virbac Paprec 3 monohull was rewarded for his two wins in the Barcelona World Race and the Transat Jacques Vabre. This new honour comes after a series of excellent results with three wins in the Transat Jacques Vabre and two in the Barcelona World Race. The skipper of Virbac Paprec 3 could not hide his pleasure and excitement from the audience at the Edouard VII Theatre:
'This is a great moment and a great honour. In my life I was not destined to become a sailor, just a navigator and in the end I made this choice. I would like to share this title with Jérémie Beyou and Loick Peyron with whom I shared my victories.'
Reminder of Jean-Pierre Dick’s successes:
