ISAF Match Race Rankings – Williams knocks Ainslie off top spot
by International Sailing Federation on 5 Aug 2011

SW
Ian Williams (GBR) and Claire Leroy (FRA) have jumped to the top of the Open and Women’s ISAF Match Race Rankings.
Open Rankings
The Brit has knocked Ben Ainslie (GBR) off the top of the Open Rankings for the first time since December 2010 after stringing together some impressive results throughout the World Match Racing Tour. Williams previously held the World number one spot in June 2008 and has slowly worked his way up to the top spot in 2011. Ainslie, who claimed the 2010 World Match Race Tour title, slips to number three.
Williams won the fifth World Match Race Tour event, Stena Match Cup Sweden, by defeating Bjorn Hansen 3-2 in the final. Hansen’s second place finish meant that the Swede moves from number six to equal his best of fourth in the world.
Like Williams, Italy’s Francesco Bruni has also put in some strong performances on the World Match Race Tour but stays at number two.
One of the biggest movers is Mads Ebler (DEN) who jumps from number 38 to number 12. The Dane won the Grade 1 Internationaux de France de Match Racing Manu Minard Trophy 2011 in Pornichet, France as well as the Grade 3 Ploener Segler Verein Match in Grosser Ploner See, Germany.
Poland’s Przemek Tarnacki won the ISAF Nations Cup Regional Open Final to secure a place at the Grand Final in Sheboygan, USA and moves to number 28.
Seven Feet Cup winner William Tiller (NZL) continues to climb up the rankings after winning the event in Russia he moves to a high of number 22 place.
Women’s Rankings
In the Women’s Match Race Rankings Claire Leroy (FRA) has taken the top spot in the rankings after her victory at the Stena Match Cup Sweden Women’s Trophy. The French match racer moved from number six to number one after she won the Grade 1 regatta in Marstrand, Sweden.
Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) came behind Leroy in Sweden and moves to a high of number two. Lucy Macgregor (GBR) slips from number one to number three. And Sally Barkow (USA) climbs to number four with Renee Groeneveld slipping to number five.
After her victory at the ISAF Nations Cup Regional Women’s Final Annemiek Bekkering (NED) moves from number 195 to number 69 and is the biggest mover in the Women’s Rankings.
The next ranking release is on 7 September 2011.
