Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy Overall lead to Azzurra Sailing Team

by Audi Azzurra Sailing Team on 20 May 2011
TP52 Day 2 - Audi Azzurra Sailing Team - Audi Medcup Cascais Trophy Guido Trombetta/AudiMedCup
Audi Medcup - Audi Azzurra Sailing Team placed second in both of the day’s races and with that they moved to the very top in the overall classification.

The Audi Azzurra Sailing Team crew took home an excellent result today after claiming two consecutive second-place finishes that take them into the lead of the overall scoreboard. North-westerly winds of 18 to 20 knots provided ideal conditions for top performances from the TP52 fleet. Azzurra's double was hard-won against an extremely competitive fleet: the fact that Bribon, who had been in the bottom end of the fleet until today, won the first race of the day proves that all of the adversaries on this regatta course are potentially dangerous.

Azzurra claimed her second place thanks to a spectacular duel with Synergy, who arrived third. The crew of Quantum, who flew into the lead from the start, took victory in the second race of the day while Azzurra gained second in the first downwind leg and held her position to the finish. Container finished third which leaves them sitting in second place overall behind Audi Azzurra Sailing Team.

The entire team was delighted on their return to port. 'We are really happy,' confirmed skipper Guillermo Parada, 'we had two consistent races where everyone gave it their best. We know which points we still need to work on to make the boat faster and we are under no illusions as to the quality of our adversaries. This is just the beginning of the championship, but days like today motivate us to keep doing better.'

Francesco Bruni gave his technical opinion during interviews with the TV stations present: 'Today the whole team won, they were two great races, especially downwind. We were relatively conservative but I am convinced that the boat can still become faster. In any case we reacted well and didn't make mistakes in our starts, tactics and manoeuvres, everything was perfect.'

2. Container p.11
3. Quantum Racing p. 12
4. Synergy p. 14
5. Bribon p. 18
