Hainan and Sanya aim to be China’s luxury yachting hubs. SW
The Hainan Rendez-Vous, a four-day lifestyle showcase running April 1 to April 4 comprises a business aviation exhibition, a high-end property collection, luxury brand displays as well as a super yacht show featuring the largest yachts ever seen in mainland China.
With long stretches of pristine sandy beaches and year-round sunshine, Hainan is China’s equivalent of the French Riviera, affectionately known to many as the 'Cannes of the East'. Sanya, the tropical beach resort city on China’s Hainan Island, is positioned as a luxury travel destination with international appeal, a strong rival to resort locations such as Bali and Phuket.
Increasingly drawing more elite Chinese and overseas holiday makers, the city is gradually moving its travel market upscale, with continued efforts in boosting its luxury tourism sector, which includes the building of an international cruise terminal, world-class yachting marinas and five-star hotels. In 2008, three top international resort brands, Ritz-Carlton, and the Singapore-listed Banyan Tree and Mandarin Oriental, all opened for business in the city.
Recognising the island’s potential as the newest luxury hot-spot, Sanya’s Deputy Mayor Li Boqing said, 'We will re-identify the city’s travel market and make a change in the tourism industry development pattern from the low-end toward the upper-end.'
One of China’s most modern marina and yacht clubs, the Visun Marina will host for the second consecutive year the Hainan Rendez-Vous. The marina, with the largest quay wall in Hainan for stern mooring, capable of berthing super yachts of 30 metres and above, was officially inaugurated in October 2009. The marina zone is part of the final phase of Visun’s luxury residential development which features restaurants, shops, entertainment facilities and low-rise, sea-view marina homes.
Running from April 1st through April 4th, the Hainan Rendez-Vous 2011 is certain to be the year's top yachting event in China with a unique flotilla that includes the largest yachts ever displayed on the mainland.
Organizers of the Hainan Rendez-Vous, China's first and most influential business jet and super yacht show, announced today that 90% of the leading jet and yacht brands exhibiting in 2010 have already signed up to come back for the second edition. To accommodate exhibitors’ growing demand, the organizers had to extend the show and create over 50% more exhibition space from last year.
The Hainan Rendez-Vous demonstrated its potential as a platform for reaching China's ultra high net worth individuals last April when several 100+ foot vessels were sold at the show. The event takes place on the idyllic shores of Hainan Island, a tropical paradise that is fast turning into China's version of the French Riviera as world-leading five-star hotel chains and high-end property developers continue to invest heavily in the area.
Crystal clear waters, fresh ocean breezes, white sand beaches and top level resorts serve as an ideal backdrop for the magnificent yachts and super yachts on display at the show.
Yacht manufacturers from last year's Hainan Rendez-Vous that have already confirmeded attendance at the 2011 event include Azimut-Benetti, Ferretti Group, Luerssen, Blohm+Voss, Royal Huisman, Sunseeker China, Princess Yachts, Sunbird, Speedo Marine, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Lagoon, the Brunswick group.
Also joining the show in April as newcomers are Heesen Yachts, Kingship, San Lorenzo, Nautitech, Fountaine Pajot, Hudson Yachts, among others.
There will also be a slew of companies offering complementary goods and services to sailing enthusiasts seeking that all-inclusive luxury voyage, as well as a forum that brings together the most influential names in yachting to exchange ideas on all aspects of the nautical industry – from legal and environmental issues to nautical tourism in China and other related subjects.
Norberto Ferretti, Chairman and Founder of Ferretti Group, said: 'Last year Ferretti Group attended Hainan Rendez-Vous and we had very positive feedback from this experience. We look upon the event as more than a boat show: it's a privileged opportunity to get in touch with Chinese and other potential clients and show them the excellence of Ferretti Group yachts.'
Top executives of leading Chinese enterprises will engage with their western counterparts at the show and expected guests include Caroline Gruosi-Sheuffele, Vice President of the renowned luxury brand Chopard; Peter Luerssen, CEO of Luerssen; Mr. Norberto Ferretti and Mr. Basile of the Ferretti Group (respectively CEO, Chairman and Founder); Alice Huisman, CEO of Royal Huisman; John Rosenvallon, President of Dassault, Habid Fekih, President of Airbus Corporate Jets.
