Super Boats get set for Key West

The 2011 season for the exciting Super Boats International program is well underway and preparation for each event is already well advanced.

Organisers have already published the race schedule for the next three years and teams are getting their boats and engines in top shape for the offshore powerboat spectacular.

The November, 2010 annual Key West World Championships were an outstanding success, attracting in excess of 50 boats and crews to what turned out to be one of the best championships staged.

Sure to be snapped up by fans is a ‘collectors’ program which will be compiled from all 2011 race venues, with every competing team pictured in the publication.

Five to seven pages will be devoted to each race with photography, editorial and quotes from competing crews covering each event.

There will also be a section called a Year-in Review highlighting every team in every race.

The 2011 Key West race will be something of a milestone as it will mark the 31st staging of the races and the 500th event produced by Super Boat International founder and CEO John Carbonell.

Confirmed venues for the 2011 season include Miami, Sarasota (Florida), Michigan City (Indiana), Cocoa Beach (Florida), New York (NY) and Clearwater Beach (Florida).

Many drivers and throttlemen have come to declare their favourite venues, with home town status proving popular.

Certainly one of the most spectacular race circuits must be New York City; a fleet of thundering Super Boats racing down the Hudson River with the towering Manhattan skyline as background is a sight spectators long remember.

John Carbonell claims Super Boat International is now the longest-running, professional offshore powerboat racing organisation in North America.

In addition to the Super Boat championships, Carbonell also produces kilo speed events and distance races across the United States, regions in South America and in the Bahamas.

A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.
