Report from Friday from Lesley Haslar:

A Class Cats withdrawn from today’s racing due wind strength.

Some great sailing to live up to by Space Station - Paul Goringe Commodore of Opua Cruising Club, and his crew of 4. They made the locals proud yesterday (Thursday) with First over the line and second on handicap. Passage 2 Division. (the puppy was NOT crewing).
Luxury Liner seen with Horima Neville 11 years old helming (Elliot 5.9/Opua Yacht Club).
Flying 15s withdrawn Friday 21 Jan 2011 – last day of racing due weather
Talking today with Graeme Robinson, often referred to as 'Chief Measurer and Registrar'; Graeme advised that they did not race today due the strong wind over the launching ramp. They couldn’t risk damage to boat or limbs during launching and/or again returning the boats back up the ramp. However Graeme was well satisfied with the Regatta and the racing, for his team of 22 Flying Fifteens from all over New Zealand. Those in the South Island took the ferry across to Wellington – then on by road. Quite a trek. Said Robinson 'I’m stoked with the mix of competent mature racers and the many young people we have now joining the sport – and these young kids are good'.
And the winners in the Flying 15 Nationals are: First overall Aaron Goodmanson and Alister Rowlands in Ffortune (Canterbury) – Second Barry Thom and Phil Quin Foreign Affair (Auckland)– Third Murray Gilbert and Jonathan Burgess in Ffrenetic (Auckland).
Friday’s racing at the Bay Regatta hasn’t been without incident; from a broken mast on Advantage, to damaged rigging on Tongue Twister - along with a few other boats still to be named.
Yet still we hear what a fantastic day of racing it has been.
