Australian Finn Championship - Ed Wright takes title
by Tim Castles on 12 Jan 2011

Regatta winner Ed Wright and top Australian Anthony Nossiter are congratulated by CSC Commodore Paul Kelly - FINNPORTS 2011 Australian Finn Championships Jim Wells
As has been the case all week, light SE’ly winds greeted competitors on the final day of racing at the Finnports 2011 Australian Finn Championships. With rain on the horizon everyone was keen to get the racing over and done with.
Ed Wright (GBR) took the line honours in the first race of the day, closely followed by Vasilij Zbogar (SLO). Rob McMillan continued his late regatta streak of form to post a fourth place.
Unfortunately with a large rain cloud smothering the race course the wind died out, running any chance of race officer Peter McLachlan completing the final race of the series.
Wright's victory in the only race of the day broke the deadlock between himself and Zbogar, giving him the title by a solitary point. Anthony Nossiter’s (AUS) consistency across the series assured him of third overall and first Australian.
IFAA President John Shallvey praised the hard work of Cronulla Sailing Club and all its volunteers, especially Andrew Baglin and Jim Wells, for such a well-run regatta. Thanks must also go to regatta sponsor Finnports and its director Rob McMillan for his support of the event and his passion in getting Finns out sailing.
With record numbers of newcomers taking part this year, as well as a very high quality of top competitors making the effort to come to Sydney for the event Finn sailing in Australia is coming into a golden age.
