Matt Reid - Laser Worlds campaign 2010 Trish Jenkins
Payden & Rygel this week confirmed backing for Matt Reid, a Spinnaker Sailing Club member and Laser class Olympic contender.

Matt is training for a full programme of Laser events, recently competing in the ‘Sail for Gold’ regatta at the National Sailing Centre, Weymouth 9-14th August 2010. Matt was recently selected for the Laser Senior Worlds at Hayling Island 27th August to September 5th 2010 and is a young and promising potential Olympic contender. Making the announcement today, Robin Creswell, Managing Principal of Payden & Rygel said 'Matt is an exceptional sailor and very committed to his sport. With the support of Spinnaker Club he has already achieved success at a high level with top places at a number of major UK regattas. Young athletes need support and funding to help with training costs entry fees and other essential overheads so their time can be dedicated to preparation, training and competition. We are delighted to have the opportunity to support Matt'. Robin Creswell also stressed the importance of the Spinnaker Club’s backing, 'their contribution was essential to our being involved'.

Competing at the highest level now requires more than just skill and determination. In today's world, sports people need specialist coaching, the best quality equipment and other forms of support. Training and attending competitions can become a full time occupation leaving no time to generate an income to live on or to fund overheads. Whilst funding often becomes available as athletes develop, the early stages can be especially challenging. Payden & Rygel has a tradition of providing backing to individuals that are perhaps below the radar screen of the main funding bodies and might not otherwise be supported. 'If we can support an individual in some way so they can achieve all they are capable of, we’re happy to be involved' Creswell added.

Founded in 1983, Payden & Rygel is now one of the world’s largest privately owned fund managers working exclusively for institutions. The firm manages £35 billion of assets on behalf of its clients which include governments, public sector bodies, supranational agencies, banks, insurance companies and corporations. Wholly owned by its senior managers the company culture is one of transparency, co-operation and accountability with the client’s objectives always at the centre of its attention. The firm also has a commitment to education and development both inside and outside the company, supporting individuals and 'investing in their potential'.
