Yacht and Boat Korea open for exhibitor bookings

by D Media on 28 Jul 2010
Goseong is known as the ’Land of the Dinosaurs’ for its ancient remains, but will host the Korea Yacht & Boat in the most modern facilities in the region. MIAA
The third Yacht and Boat Korea in the leading shipbuilding province of Gyeongsangnam in South Korea has drawn exhibitors from Asia, Europe and the Pacific for the October 14 to 17 event.

The four-day boat show has confirmed a range of leading Korean companies will be present as well as exhibitors from China, Japan, Poland, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

International Marketing Consultant Barry Jenkins said confirmed exhibitors include Yamaha which is attending the Show for the first time displaying models including the UF-26, YF-23, FR-32HP, AG-21sp (Aero Gear) and Korean companies MS Korea Co Ltd, Penta Korea, Dong-I Industrial Co Ltd and Miri Corporation.

'Vetus and Maxwell have decided to exhibit at the Show with the express purpose of gaining first-hand knowledge of this market, meeting industry representatives and making the Korean marine industry aware of their extensive product ranges,' said Mr Jenkins.

'Korea is a market that both Maxwell and Vetus have been monitoring and both companies feel this country will have significant potential for their products.' Around two years ago, renowned Dutch marine equipment company Vetus N V purchased Maxwell Marine, a well-known anchoring equipment manufacturer headquartered in New Zealand.

Mr Jenkins said Australian entities including Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Australian marine export group AIMEX would also attend the Korean event.

Yacht and Boat Korea 2010 is staged at Danghangpo (Danghang Port), close to the city of Goseong which is easily accessible by air, road or rail from Seoul or the city of Busan.

The South Korean government indicates the region accounts for 65% of the country’s shipbuilding industry. The region also accounts for 80% of the aerospace industry with other leading sectors including automobile, machinery and electronics communication industries. The region has a population of more than 3.1 million covering around 10.6% of South Korea’s geographic area. The region’s multi billion dollar export industry represents 9.6% of the gross national export.

Mr Jenkins said Yacht and Boat Korea 2010 organisers GnA have interest from a wide range of companies and expect to release further details of exhibitors in coming weeks. Other confirmed companies thus far include Boreal Motor and Marine Company, Chang Hung Industry Co Ltd, Marine Land and Daedong Marine Tech.

The inaugural Yacht Korea Show in 2007 drew a modest 70 exhibitors with visitors from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, the US, Europe and Australia.
For 2010, the organisers aim to attract 150 exhibitors, particularly increasing international company representation.

Mr Jenkins said the South Sea coastal region of South Korea, Namhaean, offers pristine waters, deep waterways and is strategically located close to Asian economic giants such as China and Japan.

Yacht and Boat Korea 2010 will be staged at the Goseong Dinosaur Park, a major tourism attraction. Gyeongsangnam province is located in the southern eastern end of the Korean peninsula.

The Republic of Korea (South Korea) has signed free trade agreements with 16 countries including Singapore, ASEAN, the US and the European Free Trade Association.

The exhibition is staged by GnA International Co Ltd based in Changwon. For details on application forms and the downloadable exhibition kit view www.yachtkorea.or.kr
Boat Show hours are 10am to 6pm daily.

Mr Jenkins, who has gained an international profile as the former General Manager for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, has been appointed an international marketing consultant for the Show. Kate Duryea of Kate D Enterprises has been appointed a public relations consultant.
