FMJ sailing in 2009 Governors Cup SW
Young Kiwi Match Racing team, Full Metal Jacket, report on the build up to the Governor's Cup, sailed from the Balboa YC, in Los Angeles.

Greetings from Full Metal Jacket Racing.

For the past couple months we have been back home in NZ fitting around work as much training as possible on the new Elliot 7s at RNZYS. This has been extremely beneficial and we have worked on lessons learned from our last trip to Spain and Korea, sharpening up our boat handling and team cohesion.

Today was practice day at the Governor's Cup, sailed out of the Balboa Yacht Club in L.A. The regatta is sailed in Gov's 21's which we are racing three up. Will, Harry and Shaun are here forming our team, as the defending champions we are looking to again perform well.

The Breeze here is normally very light, quite often a sea breeze building throughout the day. Today was a good day with a decent 10 knot breeze blowing. Perfect conditions for practice so we went to our work getting accustomed to the boats again. The main thing we worked on was getting the boat up to speed, the chop here is a rolling swell so getting the boat going fast is key to doing well in this regatta. We are hoping that tomorrow will bring another day of good breeze and that we have a good start to the regatta.

This is the first of six regattas for us in a row, five in America and then to the Danish open. It is a good one to start with to get back into the swing of things and build up to the Danish Open. We are happy to be here and looking for some good results. Also check out our new website www.fmjracing.com for daily reports and media.

We would like to thank our principal sponsor, Chris Meads from Full Metal Jacket. Thanks to SLAM, Aon New Zealand and The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.

Stay tuned, FMJ Racing
