Australians preparing for Asian Games

by Adrian Finglas on 24 Aug 2002
The Asian Games which is held every four years is like the Olympic Games for many of the Asian Countries. This year it is to be held in South Korea, Seoul the city of the 1988 Olympic games.

Much National Pride and large money incentive schemes are at stake for all the Athlete,so After the success of the last games Singapore Sailing Federation is leaving nothing to chance

They have left the team in the capable hands of two of Australia,so up and coming Olympic class coaches.

Andrew Sanders from Perth has been employed as high Performance Manager and Laser coach.

Andrew thinks the team has Great potential and is a team for the future,we are going to develop this team into Gold medals at the 2008, 2012 Olympic games.

They have also employed the Skills of Queensland coach Adrian Finglas.Finglas last time around was employed by the National Team of Myanmar, which won three gold Medals at the S.E.A. Games.

Adrian specializes in Olympic class coaching having worked on projects for both the American Olympic Team and New Zealand Olympic Teams, and America,so cup
projects.

We have our work cut out but we have a passion to win just as much as the athletes,if we don,to win gold I have failed as a coach, big expectation from someone who has
experienced the elite level of our sport.

Both Coaches have been very successful in implementing a training program which has 3 Australian Training partners joining the team for one Month In Korea come
September.

'We have sourced three of the most talented young small boat sailors Australia has to offer' Finglas states.

These guys are an integral part of our preparation.James Garnaut from Perth is current Australian 420 National Champion and has already been working with the team for 5 months. He came to Europe to be a bench mark at all the top European events and has been such a help.( Finglas rates him as one of the best young sailors he has ever worked with.)

Tom Burger, James Seymour, and Gavin Fee all I.S.A.F Junior World Medallist sailors have all been enlisted in the train on Squad. This train on squad is such a great sharing of talent and resources both countries learn so much from each other.
