I have the pleasure of writing this year's final race report from the GBR team on the 2025 Cadet World Championship in Lake Lipno, Czechia. This has been a fantastic event and an amazing adventure, from the long road trip down from the UK to Czechia to meeting friends from all over the world.
On the last day there was one race scheduled with the first warning signal due at 11:30. However the wind was very light and we were kept on shore with the postponement flag flying (or not flying). To pass the time everyone got involved in making friends and trading team kit, and at around 3:30 the postponement flag came down and we launched for our final race of the competition. It was however a tough day for the British team, Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock the lead British boat came 23rd. Dylan McArdle and Harriet Walker were the highest place British boat finishing 19th. During the race winds continued to be patchy and unfortunately the promo fleet's race was abandoned at the windward mark, with Mia Stanislaus and Sophie Baer leading, leaving the results as they were.
After the final race, the new World Champions are Uliana Postrelko and Katerina Butenko from Ukraine, only the second ever female helm to win a world championship (the first was Maria Augustine Torre from Argentina in 2003) and the first all female boat to ever win!
GBR's new national champions, Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock, sailed brilliantly to place a fantastic 2nd overall with 3 podium places in races and 9 top ten results. This has been the best British performance in the World Championship since 2022 when Toby Bush and Kemmel Thorogood won in Australia. Jemima McMorris and Islay Bromhead were next, placing 17th with a really consistent and strong performance all week.
The British team also performed really strongly in the promos. Mia Stanislaus and Sophie Baer winning 1st place, the first British boat to do so since Daisy Nunn and Oscar Bush at Poland in 2019. Just behind them were Mimi Windibank and George Blackwell, finishing 2nd. George also received the trophy for the youngest male sailor in the competition!
On behalf of all the sailors I would like to thank the race committee and the all the event organisers for putting on some great racing, despite the difficult conditions. I also want to thank our fantastic coaches Alex Corby, Vince Horey, Rhona Enkel and Zak Windibank who supported us and helped us to be our best, and our parents for their support. We also couldn't have done this without the help of our amazing sponsors Hawk Marine Optics who have supported the British team to achieve some amazing results.
It has been an amazing event with a beautiful location, and we all enjoyed playing volleyball at Windy Point after sailing! I love sailing cadets, it brings so many new opportunities and you get to meet so many different people from all over the world. I'm looking forward to the 2026 World Championships in Lake Garda.
