US Yachts to market Silverton

by Bob Wonders on 17 Jun 2010
Very stylish indeed, the Silverton 36 Convertible sitting pretty with a fair whack of throttle. SW

Now you might be curious as to why Sydneysider Matt Hayes would get a mention on the hallowed pages of Powerboat-World?

After all, he's a 'rag and stick man', a yachtie who represented Australia in the Soling class at the Atlanta Olympic Games; he's been rated as high as #4 in the world in the Soling class and was in the crew of the top maxi ‘Ragamuffin' for 14 Sydney to Hobart blue water classics.

And that's only some of Matt Hayes' yachting claims to fame.

He's also been a Hunter Yachts dealer for the past six-years, taking the California-built breed to a strong position on the local market.

Matt Hayes finally earns his place on Powerboat-World because he has seen the light (partly!) and joined the strength; his company, US Yachts, based at Darling Harbour, on the Sydney waterfront, is now the place to see the respected Silverton marque.

While it may no be a household name in Australia, Silverton does boast quite a pedigree; it was established 41-years ago by John and Warren Luhrs as the Silverton Marine Corporation.

It remains a component of the Luhrs Group today.

Silverton produces a range of craft, including motor yachts, convertibles, sport bridge and sport coupe designs from 36' (10.97-metres) to 50' (15.24-metres).

Matt and his US Yachts team have decided to 'test the water' with the very stylish Silverton 36' Convertible, described as the most popular model in the manufacturer's history.

I think anyone inspecting this quite delightful vessel would see quickly how it earned its popularity.

It certainly boasts some highly desirable features, including an 'uncommonly roomy' master stateroom, complete with a queen-sized island berth.

Additional accommodation includes single bunks in a second stateroom, while the spacious main cabin or saloon delivers a fair share of unabashed luxury.

A superb sofa in Ultraleather, an additional settee, and a convenient dinette offer some of the comforts of home.

Attention to detail is outstanding, with interior accents, beautifully finished cabinetry and cherry décor of the quality one would normally expect aboard 'Superyachts.' A well-planned flying bridge and a spacious cockpit adds to its claim as a true convertible.

Silverton offers a range of power options, primarily gasoline for the US market, but if I were in the position to be a prospective purchaser I would opt for the diesel option, 6LPA-STP Yanmar engines at 315hp.

For those fortunate enough to visit the 2010 Sydney International Boat Show, I'd strongly recommend time be taken to have a look at one of America's thoroughbreds.

Otherwise, for further information contact US Yachts, Sydney, telephone (02) 9281-4422 or visit the website, www.silvertonmarine.com.au
