Defending champion Alistair Gair will be battling with 10 other crews at this weekend's Waiwera Water Etchells Nationals and Auckland Championships being sailed off Royal Akarana Yacht Club.

Up to five races per day will be sailed in the Saturday and Sunday with the courses being located between Mechanics Bay and Rangitoto Island on the inner Waitemata harbour. Racing starts each day at 1000hrs.

Some of New Zealand's top sailors will be competing including former World Champions in the class and Olympic representatives.

The National Championship will also double as the Auckland Championships for the class, which is undergoing a resurgence after the establishment of a launching and storage facility at Westhaven last year.
