The Merlin Rocket Class Association will be exhibiting on stand B16 in the Great Hall at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show. On display will be the latest hull to come out of Winder Boats and the 2009 National Championship winning boat, Business as Usual.
Winder Boats
Fresh from West Yorkshire, complete with a one-string string system this is the latest hull development work from Winder Boats. The sails are supplied by Pinnell & Bax, and she comes complete with a high modulus Series 2 carbon mast and a BC086 carbon boom supplied by Seldén.
Kevin Driver – modified Let it Ride all wood
The beautiful wooden hull of Business as Usual was built by Kevin Driver of Wrecked'em Boatyard in 2003 and modified by Jo Richards, the current National 12 Champion 2009 with his radical design, Dead Cat Bounce. This modified ‘Let it Ride' design, will be on show with a full carbon rig designed and manufactured by Alan Jackson of Chipstow and sails supplied by Hyde Sails, developed specifically for Glen Truswell and Olly Turner's 2009 Campaign.
2010 National Championships
The 65th Nationals are being hosted by Penzance Sailing Club from 15th to 20th August 2010. This the first time the class have been invited to Penzance located in the beautiful Mounts Bay. The class actively encourage sailors of all levels to come and take part in the nationals, with recognition and awards given across the fleet and not just for crossing the line first!
Jamie Stewart, Founder and Managing Director of Synthesize Yachts and Design is providing the first 'old Boat' (which now includes MK 1 Winder Boats) with a prize of a £200 voucher for work by his team, 'It's great to be involved with this development class, I'm looking forward to seeing a large turnout at Penzance!' Other key sponsors and their prizes include, TackTick, who are providing a Micro Compass for the highest placed boat sailing the complete championships without a compass, Chipstow, are providing a £200 voucher for the winner of the Holt Plate, which is the individual handicap system and guarantees the front end of the fleet are handicapped out of this prize! Winder Boats, Marlow Ropes and Allen Brothers have also pledged their support, with more continued support for the class coming from Pinnell & Bax, Hyde Sails, North Sails, Speed Sails, Goacher Sails, Phil Scott Boats and Harken offering prizes and or support.
