Kennards Hire Solo Globe Challenger 40nm west of Three Kings Islands at the northern tip of the NZ North Island

by Tony Mowbray on 29 May 2002
Here I am still chipping away into a (insert expletive) very ordinary 30-35 knt westerly. The barometer rose 10 points through the night
(for non sailing types this is good) as a low pressure system at the bottom of NZ moves away which should see the breeze abate and swing
to the south west enabling SAL to point at Mooloolaba still 1038 nm away.

Sue Norton, artist, painted me recently for her entry in the ArchiBALD (remember bald men have feelings) prize.Perhaps I should
rephrase - there wasn't enough paint in the land to actually paint me - I assure you her fine efforts are on canvas! About now I expect
the results will be announced. Sue did a great job and very thoughtfully painted me with a stylish beanie on. So regardless of the result you
may now add to my resume 'ARTISTS MODEL'. Funny old world?

The Australian Yachting Federation awards night is coming up on the 8th of June and if I don't get a wriggle on I won't be back in time.I
am really looking forward to attending but I suppose I have a reasonable excuse - GONE SAILING !!!

A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.
