Respected yacht builder Grand Banks has unveiled the latest in the impressive Aleutian series with the superb 53 Aleutian RP, featuring a completely new hull and deckhouse design complemented with new interior layouts.
The design of the new boat has been described as 'perfect' for live-aboard and open water cruising, with absolutely no compromise in the level of luxuries, amenities and craftsmanship.
With a three stateroom layout, plus a ‘utility room’ that offers more than 2.0-metres headroom and can serve a variety of purposes, the 53 Aleutian RP lacks for nothing when it comes to on board space.
The ‘utility room’ has access from the full-width mid-ships master stateroom and could serve as a walk-in closet, laundry room, pantry space or just plain added stowage space.
An optional layout also allows this space to be configured as crew quarters accessible from the engine room.
David Hensel, Grand Banks director of marketing, said the configurations available allowed for much more living and storage space than one would expect on this type of vessel.
'Couples and families looking to cruise self-sufficiently over long distances will be excited by what’s now available in a very manageable size,' he added.
The 53 Aleutian RP can be specified with a range of dual engine options, from dual 593hp Cummins through to C-12 Caterpillar diesels at 750hp.
Depending on the engines chosen, this substantial craft can still achieve a brisk 22 knots, though a cruising speed more in the 16-18 knot rate will greatly reduce fuel consumptions on longer voyages.
The space aboard this delightful vessel is helped of course by its relatively broad 5.45-metre (17’9') beam, well above average for a 16.0-metre (53’) boat.
Expansive windows bring in ample light to the spacious saloon, while offering excellent viewing for those aboard.
In addition to the centreline helm station, the raised pilothouse also has a well-equipped galley to starboard and a large dinette to port.
Down below, the master stateroom is also light-filled, courtesy of outsized portlights in the hull sides.
Accessed via a private staircase from the saloon, the master suite also boasts a large queen-sized berth, exceptional storage and a large and luxurious en-suite.
A separate stairwell leads down from the pilothouse to the large VIP guest cabin forward as well as a third guest cabin which, for those needing it, can be configured as an on-board office.
Like other models in the Aleutian range, the 53 RP features a classic Portuguese bridge and large aft deck, as well as an expansive flying bridge with a second helm station and ample seating for guests around a handmade, teak table.
Designed by Grand Banks in-house team, the hull and superstructure of the boat underwent extensive tank testing at the renowned Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory at the University of Michigan.
This allowed complete validation of the design and performance specifications.
David Hensel said the development of the 53 Aleutian RP was driven by the same key principles of seaworthiness, comfort, performance and sophistication applied to earlier models in the Aleutian series.
'What has emerged is an entirely new Aleutian, smaller in size, but with the powerful presence owners have come to expect,' he said.
'This vessel is exceptionally capable of supporting a cruising couple or family on long coastal voyages or of setting the perfect stage for entertaining closer to home,' he added.
Hank Compton, regional manager, Australia and Asia Pacific for Grand Banks, is currently establishing new headquarters for the marque in Australia.
'We are in negotiations at present and we will have facilities on a marina in the Gold Coast, Queensland region,' he said.
Compton is particularly excited at the prospect of introducing the 53 Aleutian RP to Australian buyers, but sadly, they will have to be patient.
'Vessels like this are not mass produced and I will not have an Australian 53 Aleutian RP until the 2011 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show,' he added.
Prospective buyers can preview the 53 Aleutian RP via a special website the company has established: www.grandbanks.com/preview53.
Depending on the currency rating at time of purchase, Compton estimates the 53 Aleutian RP will retail somewhere slightly above AUD$2 million.
