Morris Yacht & Beach Club Request for Burgees

by Joe Sullivan on 30 Oct 2009
As many of you know, the 150-year old mansion, that served as the clubhouse at our homeport, Morris Yacht & Beach Club on City Island, NY, burned to the ground in March 2006. The club lost everything. To assist the club in its rebuilding efforts, our team elected to request donations of burgees from clubs all over the world. To date, 170 burgees have been received. Of these, 17 are from college/university sailing teams and one secondary school.

Groundbreaking for the new clubhouse took place last June and commissioning is expected next June. We would like to get as many college/university burgees as possible. If your club has a team burgee and have not yet donated one for this worthy cause, your gift will be very much appreciated. Please send it to me at the address below. Each gift will be acknowledged.

In closing, we would like to again thank the following teams for donating a burgee for display in Morris' new clubhouse. Please plan on participating in one of our future regattas so you may see your burgee proudly displayed.

THANK YOU - Army, Charleston, Hobart & William Smith, Kings Point, Old Dominion, Ocean County College, Penn State, Princeton, Roger Williams, St. Mary's, Salve Regina, Stevens, SUNY Maritime, University of Hawaii, University of Victoria, Fordham and last but not least, our only secondary school burgee from Loyola Academy Sailing Team in Wilmette, IL.
