Hong Kong Cruiser Owners’ Association Championship Series 2009/10

by Hong Kong Cruiser Owners’ Association on 22 Sep 2009
Ambush - leading the HKCOA Championship Series 2009/10 after the first event Guy Nowell http://www.guynowell.com
Good winds and a fair entry list saw the ABC Opening Regatta start the Hong Kong sailing year in true style. The ABC Opening Regatta is the first event of the COA Championship Series for 2009/10.

Congratulations to Drew Taylor and Joachim Isler and their crew on Ambush who, after winning the ABC Opening Regatta’s IRC division, now lead the COA Championships 2009/10 (IRC). Hot on their heels in 2nd place, Nick Burns and Fred Kinmouth with Mandrake… but keep an eye on Red Kite 2 this year. Anthony Root made a sterling charge up the rankings of the 2008/9 Championships, despite only taking delivery of his new charge mid-way through the sailing year. Against some of the big guns of Hong Kong sailing, an excellent start to the series with 3rd place!

Having seen No One Else dominate the HKPN A division of the Opening Regatta, one can only guess that they have been inspired to replace their lack-luster summer performances with a real challenge for this years Championship Series. The improvement in the J/35’s pace is nothing short of amazing and has occurred almost overnight! Hot on her heels are Rhapsody (winners of the HKPN Division B), G.A. and Chota Scye who respectively placed 2nd 3rd and 4th after one of the premier events of Hong Kong’s sailing season.

The next event of the COA Championship Series 2009/10 will be the HHYC Port Shelter Regatta next weekend (26/27 September) followed by a host of events in October. These will include the RHKYC China Coast Regatta, the COA Macau Races and, for the first time as part of the COA Championship Series, the DBYC Middle Island Regatta.

Please note that a request has been made to not let the 2008/9 results out of the bag, yet, though it would not take a rocket scientist to work out the podium places for the 2008/9 series!
