Cruisers picnicking - found a better way of life BW Studios
Cruising sailors who stay cruising for long periods of time know they have found a better way of life, and in the Caribbean, many who wish to stay living and sailing on their boats find their way to the San Blas - a maze of islands inhabited by the Kuna Indians lying in the waters between Colombia and Panama.
It is not an area well covered by cruising guides, with the result that enterprising cruisers do it themselves. So it is that we bring you Glenn and Eddie Tuttle's 2009 Cruising Guide to Panama and the San Blas Islands, generously offered to cruising sailors free of charge. It contains contacts for everything you could possibly need while cruising.
About Eddie and Glenn on Tothill:
Eddie and Glenn began living aboard in 1982, and spent all their spare time in Tierra Verde with many cruises to the Keys. In 1992 they bought a 46’ Grand Banks trawler which they named “Tothill”, the English derivitave of their last name Tuttle. After retiring in 2002, they headed south towards Venezuela and the ABC Islands to the west. Then since 2006 they have been cruising between Cartegana and Panama, with lengthy stays in the idyllic islands of the San Blas.
With much energy to spare, they are well placed to have produced this free guide for sailors who intend to sail the area. This is an extremely lengthy(28 pages) and comprehensive guide, and you are encouraged to print it out. It covers not only Panama City and Colon, at west and east ends of the Panama Canal respectively, but also Linton, the amazing San Blas Islands, and Bocas/David.
