Five large motor cruisers were ablaze this afternoon on Sydney’s Pittwater.
A boat caught fire at Newport Anchorage Marina on Beaconsfield Road, Newport, at 2.30pm and that blaze spread to two boats in the next marina pens.
Two of the burning craft were dragged to nearby sand flats at Bayview and extinguished,
NSW Fire Brigades spokesman Norm Buckley said the boats were dragged out into open water to prevent further damage.
'We pushed those crafts that were actually on fire out into the water so they don't pose any danger to the actual wharf itself or any part of the structures or indeed any of the other boats,' he said.
However things did not to plan, the large crowds lining the foreshores watched as the third boat pushed by a strong westerly wind, drifted into the Sirsii Marina, on Crescent Road, where two more boats caught fire.
