C-Tech is extremely proud to have supplied CT Sailbattens to many recent race winners taking part in top class yachting events. As the following achievements show, CT Sailbattens are being used by yachts at the top of their game, yachts that face the toughest challenges in the sport of sailing often in the harshest conditions the sea can provide.

Volvo Ocean Race, Leg 5 won by Ericsson 3 & Leg 6 by Ericsson 4

Ericsson 3 won leg 5 of the Volvo from Qingdao to Rio de Janeiro, the longest leg of the race with 12,300 nautical miles being covered. Ericsson 4 recently won leg 6, arriving first in Boston after a very demanding race.

Martin Oliver, Sail Coordinator for Ericsson says: 'we haven’t broken any C-Tech battens during this race, the battens are great!!’

To win the Volvo is to reach the pinnacle of achievement in the sport of sailing. The Volvo is without doubt one of the most demanding team sporting events worldwide. Today, as ever, it is an exceptional test of crew and yacht, and is quite simply the 'Everest of Sailing'.

The 2008 – 09 Volvo will see yachts sail over 37,000 nautical miles of the world’s most challenging seas. Sailors will experience life at the extreme, trusting their lives to the boat and the skipper as they participate in the ultimate mix of world class competition and offshore endurance.

All 8 yachts taking part in the 2008 -09 Volvo Ocean Race have s-glass / carbon CT Sailbattens for offshore racing with full carbon CT Sailbattens for the inshore legs.

Vendee 2008 – 09 won by Foncia

The winner of this year’s Vendee Globe race was Michel Desjoyeaux in February 2009. Sailing his Open 60 Foncia he sailed to victory in a record time of 84 days, 3 hours and 9 minutes, shattering the previous record by an outstanding 3 days. He is the only person to win the race twice, achieving an historic double victory.

Foncia was one of 23 Open 60’s from a fleet of 30 that used CT Sailbattens.

Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, won by Emirates Team NZ

The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series in Auckland, January 2009 was the biggest match racing event to take place in the South Pacific since the Louis Vuitton Cup in 2003. Emirates Team NZ and BMW Oracle Cup boats battled it out on the race course with sailors from 10 world-class America’s cup teams, the Olympics and World Match Racing circuits. In hosting and then winning this event, Emirates Team NZ returned the spectacle of Cup racing back to New Zealand waters, re-united teams from 9 countries and put Auckland back on the map for top class racing.

Artemis Transat 2008 won by Gitana Eighty

Loick Peyron sailing Gitana Eighty won the 2008 Artemis Transat after a very demanding and challenging race. Sailing from Plymouth (UK) to Boston (USA) on this legendary North Atlantic Route Loick Peyron smashed the existing course record by 3 hours, 32 minutes and 33 seconds. The oldest Solo race in history, the Artemis Transat Race has created many great sailing legends over the last forty years.
