GBR 470 pair disqualified from first race

by Karenza Morton on 12 Aug 2008
470 - Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark (GBR) Skandia Team GBR http://media.skandiateamgbr.com

Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark will be looking for an immediate response when racing re-starts in Qingdao tomorrow after being disqualified from race one of their 2008 Olympic regatta.

The jury upheld a right-of-way infringement protest brought against the British 470 girls by the Slovenian duo Vesna Dekleva and Klara Maucec after the close of racing today meaning Bassadone and Clark score a 20 for that race and now lie in 15th place overall in the 19 boat fleet.

Bassadone and Clark had been sat in ninth prior to the jury’s verdict having picked up a 13th and eighth from their opening two class races today.

But the Brits will now be hoping to land a couple of good scores tomorrow to pull them back into contention once the discard comes into force at race five.

The Slovenians were also disqualified from race one after being protested by the Czech team Lenka Smidova and Lenka Mrzilkova.
