Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher further confirmed their supreme light wind sailing skills when the Austrian sailors clinched their third win in the Olympic Tornado Catamaran event off Sydney Heads today.
They took the lead out of the start a cleverly sailed the pressure line out of the variable 6-9knot North East wind shifts to hold a strong grip on the race at the end of the initial windward beat.
Hagara noted for his gifted light wind sailing skills sailed a more conservative course up the beat while their nearest rivals Darren Bundock and John Forbes of Australia elected to search for more favourable wind on the left.
The tactic failed to produce the desired result for the Australian's when they rounded the weather mark in 8th place 1 minute 37 seconds behind the speed sailing Austrian crew.
Hagara and Steinacher extended their pointscore lead with another impressive display of light wind sailing.
