Queensland Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations, the Hon. John Mickel has joined with Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke to officially open the new Superior Jetties headquarters at Arundel, on the Gold Coast.
The new facility gives the docking systems designer and manufacturer an all-new facility covering 5500 square metres.
In addition to housing the company’s international head office, the new facility will also boost the production capability of the company’s plastic roto moulded division, Superior Plastech.
Guests attending the official opening included AMIF and Marine Queensland president Barry Jenkins, Marine Queensland general manager Don Jones and Gold Coast Marine Industry Association president Charles Dickson.
Another welcome guest was marina legend Ron d’Albora, looking hale and hearty after a recent bout with illness.
The Minister generated a round of applause after officially declaring the new facility open when he refused to unveil a commemorative plaque.
'I’m not here to do this,' he said, 'let the workers do it, they’re the ones that count.'
Three of Superior Jetties employees were only too happy to accept Mr Mickel’s invitation to come forward and unveil the plaque.
Superior Jetties managing director, John Hogan, said the new facility would provide the company with the platform for the next stage of its growth.
'There’s a growing focus on our international expansion and we’re now exporting our product, knowledge and experience to a growing list of countries around the world,' he said.
'And we’ll continue to do this from our traditional home right here on the Gold Coast,' he added.
Superior Jetties and Superior Plastech now employ 65 staff.
'I believe our growth is attributable to our efforts at international boat shows and conferences together with the support provided by local, State and Federal Government authorities,' John Hogan added.
