Sunseeker Challenger want strong P1 season start

The crew of the #11 Sunseeker Challenger SuperSport entry are looking to make a strong start to the 2008 Powerboat P1 season in this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix of the Sea in San Benedetto del Tronto as they bid to make a step forward towards the front of the grid from their first year in the championship.

The Fiat Powertrain Technologies-powered Team Sunseeker entry finished seventh in last season’s SuperSport standings in the outfit’s first year in the Powerboat P1 series. Throttleman Pete Little has been hired to join pilot Andy Wilby in the cockpit of the #11 Sunseeker Challenger boat.

'We’re naturally nervous and apprehensive,' Little said as the team prepared to leave for Italy. 'A lot is expected of us this season and, while we are mentally prepared and in peak physical condition, there are so many unknowns. How will the new hull perform? What improvements have our rivals made during the off-season? And will the new rules ensure a level playing field for all competitors?'

Sunseeker Sales Group Managing Director Dominic Byrne added that he was confident that the Sunseeker crew had the potential to be a frontrunning package in 2008. 'Our Sunseeker XS Challenger is a proven performer,' he said. 'With the energy and commitment shown by everyone associated with our racing team, 2008 promises much.

'However, in any form of motorsport, especially where the elements play such a pivotal role, there are so many factors to consider, including good fortune! Our ambition in Italy is quite simple – to complete both races without incident and, in doing so, establish a solid base from which to build our title challenge.'
