Club Venture members farewelled the crew members of the yacht 'National Investment Institute' at a glittering function last night, overlooking the King Street wharf in Darling Harbour, Sydney, where their expedition vessel was docked.
Pasko Skelin and Henry Kaye of the National Investment Institute paid tribute to the drive and enthusiasm of one of their own clients, offshore sailor and adventurer Jeremy 'Jazz' Pearce whose burning vision was the touchstone in their association with the expedition.
The Club Venture expedition is circumnavigating the world through the southern ocean's below the southern ocean capes in a purpose built McIntyre 55 yacht, which has been built and equipped by Ocean Frontiers for expeditions in southern ocean and Antarctic waters.
The expedition organiser Don McIntyre, the CEO of Ocean Frontiers was the founder of the Short-Handed Sailing Association of Australia and it's Chairman for the first five years.
He is no stranger to circumnavigations having been the organiser, manager and promoter of the 1988 Two-Handed Around Australia Yacht Race and Sydney BOC Race Chairman, 1986 and an Australian 1990/91 BOC Challenge competitor.
During the evening the crew and their families talked about their upcoming adventure with Club Venture members.
Interest was high in inspecting the 55 foot yacht berthed at King's Wharf as an upcoming competition will decide which one of the Club Venture Platinum members will be joining the 'National Investment Institute' for its final leg from Cape Town to Sydney in January 2002.
