Offshore crews are already making final arrangements for the history-making Sydney Harbour clash over the weekend of March 8/9 when up to 17 of the nation’s fastest powerboats do battle in the Sydney Superboat Grand Prix.

Spectators will have ample opportunities to see the awesome racers, firstly at the all-important scrutineering, scheduled to take place in the dry pit area at White Bay, Rozelle, between 0900 and 1130 on the Saturday.

Driver briefing will follow and then the boats will assemble on the main harbour for pole position trials between 1400 and 1500hrs. The race will start at 1500hrs on the Sunday.

Class I boats will race over a 180 kilometre course, Super Cat Outboards are scheduled for 150 kilometres, Super Cat Lite a 135 kilometre course, 120 kilometres for Super Vee Lite, 105 kilometres for the Haines Suzuki class and 90 kilometres for the remaining Cruiser, Production and Unlimited Production classes.

Because of the lack of suitable launching ramps on Sydney Harbour, arrangements have been made of the boats to be launched via crane.

The Sydney Superboat Grand prix represents Round 5 in the Offshore Superboat Championships.

Round 6 has been scheduled for Port Stephens over the weekend of March 29/30 with the final round set down for Townsville on a date to be selected in June.
