Aiming for qualification and national selection

by RSX Class.com on 13 Jan 2008
Magdalena Resano (ARG) is in Takapuna to qualify Argentine for the Olympics - and earn selection herself! Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz
Magdalena Resano arrived in New Zealand on 31 December to prepare for the RS:X World Championship. The Argentine’s Olympic hopes are on the line at this event and being well prepared is important.

Agentina has not yet earned a place in the women’s windsurfing at the Olympic Games later this year. They are up against twelve other nations who are at this regatta to earn one of seven Olympic berths still up for grabs – five will miss out.

As she prepares to hit the water for the first race of the regatta Resano is all smiles and confident of her chances. Conditions today are light and this works in Resano’s favour over her Argentine rival Florencia Gutierrez who is stronger in planing conditions.

Resano’s goal is to sail well enough over the initial three days of regatta to put her into the top half of the women’s division or the gold fleet. If she finishes ahead of Guttierez and earns the country spot she will represent Argentina at the Olympic Games.
