Lawrence A. White Trophy, USCGA - final results

by James E. Perkins on 3 Nov 2007
Doug Clark, Director of Sailing at USCGA was the Regatta PRO. I want to thank Doug and his team of Cadets for running a first class regatta.

It was a beautiful weekend for sailing. Bright sunshine, cool air with the leaves along the bank of the Thames starting to turn color. Saturday morning started slow with a delay due to lack of wind. The wind filled in with a NW wind of six to eight knots and built through the day to 10 knots shifting towards the north and then back to the west. The USCGA Cadets ran eight races for the day with A-division in 420s and B-division in FJs.

All courses sailed were triangles-windward-leeward with a down wind finish. Sunday morning started right on time with a west wind of six knots that built through the day to 12 knots from the NW with gusts to 16 knots. The current was running at three knots and gave a few competitors problems getting around the windward mark.

The Cadets ran seven races with A-division in FJs and B division in 420s. All courses sailed were triangles-windward-leeward with a down wind finish. Many protests were reported on the water with only one being filed in which the team being protested was DSQ.

Special thanks to CGA Cadets for running 17 great races and moving many marks around all day to keep course square.

Also thanks to Cadets on shore helping with scoring, rotation, and rigging/de-rigging boats every rotation. Again thanks to the Cadets for giving up a weekend of collegiate sailing and time with their parents on parents' weekend.

Congratulations to Duxbury for winning the 2007 Lawrence A. White Trophy, High School Open Fall Regatta, USCGA.
