Cruising Series – Race 1 & Motor Yacht Log Rally

Begins this weekend – Saturday 27 October

This fantastic family and fun cruising series now includes Multihulls! Start at Resolution Buoy at 1pm it’s a short cruise to the selected destination. Once you get there jump in the dinghy (you have to carry one) and head ashore for a social hour on the beach! The weather is looking very sunny for this weekend – why not go for a cruise?

Hauraki Trifecta Teams Race Event 2007

Saturday 10 November – Race start 10am off Westhaven Tower

The course: From the start at Westhaven Tower around Waiheke Island to the finish at Westhaven. One boat per team shall go around the opposite way to the other two members of the team.

Prizes Teams Prizes (PHRF) 1st team $3000; 2nd team $2100; 3rd team $1500. IRC Racing Handicap 1st boat $750; 2nd boat $300; 3rd boat $150.

New Zealand Match Racing Championships 2007

Qualifier Series: Friday 16 – Sunday 18 November
Racing begins at 9.30am each raceday and the Members’ Bar is open for viewing! Get in early and grab a seat on the deck to watch the hottest local match racing talent compete for the FINAL two spots in the New Zealand Match Racing Championships. Entries so far….Simon Dickey, Jessica Smyth, James Glidden, Jonathan Rankine and David Wood.

Championships Series: Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th November

Again racing begins at 9.30 each raceday. This will be ten of the best skippers lining up to grab this prestigious national title. Dean Barker – 2004, 2005 & 2006 champion – is confirmed!; Phil Robertson (winner of the MRX Winter Match Racing Series); Michael Thorpe (RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme); Simon Minoprio; Laurie Jury; Adam Minoprio and Chris Dickson – sailing with the Coach Guy Pilkington and an all RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme crew!

The long awaited new release of Landcruiser is finally here……..and your chance to test drive one!

Join Giltrap City Toyota at the end of the first day of racing of the New Zealand Match Racing Championships for an exclusive viewing of the latest Landcruiser.

The team from Giltrap’s will be there to show you the long-awaited release of the Landcruiser with opportunities for you to test drive the vehicle and ask any questions. Food and beverages kindly supplied by Giltrap City Toyota.

The new Landcruiser is yet to be released in New Zealand and as the ‘Official Supplier of Motor Vehicles to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’, Giltrap City Toyota want our members to be one of the first in Auckland to see and test drive the vehicle.

Be in the Dinghy Locker on Thursday 22nd November from 5pm for your opportunity to meet the Giltrap team and view the new vehicles.

Mount Gay Rum Race – Mexican Night…..in association with Sauza Tequila

Friday 2nd November

Wear your best sombrero, poncho or Mexican moustache and enjoy Mexican Night at the Squadron, after the Mount Gay Rum Race. Mexican food, Latin American music and be in to win a prize for the best Mexican costume. The Mount Gay Rum Race – giving you more reasons to come back and have fun at the Squadron!

Melbourne Cup at the Squadron
Tuesday 6th November – 4pm – Members’ Bar
Get your fancy hats and frocks ready and be in the Members’ Bar for our annual Melbourne Cup Party! Sweepstakes and hat competitions are just some of the fun planned. Why not come down for lunch in the Quarterdeck Restaurant and stay on!

Complimentary snacks and cash bar, no booking required.

Kawau Island – Important Notice

Fireworks not wanted!

Fire is the greatest threat, fear and danger on Kawau Island. Due to extreme fire risk on the Island and because we want to protect homes and native wildlife, we ask members not to take fireworks to Kawau.


Masters Swims – Herne Bay Beach

Sunday 11 November – 7am to 11.30am, Herne Bay Beach Harbour Swim start – Curran Street beach finish.

Night sailing, Transat Paprec, Congressional Cup
Night sailing, encountering light airs in the Transat Paprec, Congressional Cup We bundled up as the last of the rays sunlight dipped below the Olympic Mountains and night quietly fell on Puget Sound. We'd been racing for about twelve hours in the Seattle Yacht Club's Protection Island Race (April 26), and we were getting tired.

Triple amputee passes halfway point of challenge
Craid Wood is more determined than ever, despite troubles during Pacific crossing Despite experiencing a number of technical issues with his boat, Craig Wood is now halfway through his sail with well over 4000 nautical miles done. He is feeling positive about reaching the finish line at Osaka in Japan in just over a months' time.
