There is only one day left for the TMN Snipe World Championship, ending tomorrow at Leixões. Once again the wind played a decisive part by not blowing strong enough for any race to take place.
The Japanese Kenji Abe/Hiroshi Yamachica keep their lead. Tomas Hornos/Enrique Quintero – United States are second The current World Champion, the North-American Augie Diaz, crewing with Mark Ivey, is ranking 11th in the overall provisional results. Gonçalo Guerra/Tiago Guerra are the best qualifying Portuguese crew, ranking 14th.
The Race Committee did everything possible to make the third race of the TMN Snipe World Championship happen. However, the effort did not pay off due to the almost absent wind forcing the Race Committee to abandon the race and try again on the last day of the Championship.
João Aranda, President of the Race Committee, does not hide his disappointment 'It was despairing. We tried four starting sequences but had no conditions to finish a single race. The wind was blowing at the minimum sailable strength and coming from an unfavourable direction. Tomorrow we expect to start racing procedures at 09 am and will try to have the organisation's authorization to wait, at most, until 17 pm', he stated.
The TMN Snipe World Championship is organised by the Clube de Vela Atlântico and enjoys the support of the Matosinhos City Hall, TMN (Mobile Communication Services Company), the Youth Sports State Secretariat, the Administration of Douro and Leixões Ports (APDL), the Instituto do Desporto (Portuguese Sports Institute) and the Federação Portuguesa de Vela (Portuguese Sailing Federation).
