Extremeboat complete double P1 victory at Cowes

by Martin Allerton on 27 Aug 2007
#01, EXTREMEBOAT.COM. British, SuperSport Class. Mike Shelton, Jackie Hunt. Powerboat P1 World Championship - The UIM Powerboat P1 British Grand Prix of the Sea.Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK Powerboat P1 World Championship http://www.powerboatp1.com
Another superb tactical performance from Jackie Hunt and Mike Shelton in Extremeboat, secured an emphatic victory and with it the British Grand Prix SuperSport title for the husband and wife pairing. It was the second consecutive year that Hunt and Shelton have won their home event and they now move on to the season's penultimate Grand Prix as championship leaders.

In a fiercely fought production class encounter, Sun Lik Beer, the Anglo-Chinese boat of Martin Lai and Andreas Halkiopoulos moved through the field, overtaking VoomVoom.com on lap 4 to take second place and put pressure on Extremeboat. Behind them the Championship leaders, Roscioli Hotels Roma, were building up a head of steam, making up for a disappointing result in Friday's first leg and eager to secure valuable championship points. Lai and Halkiopoulos are determined, exceptional racers and had to utilise all of their racing skills to stay ahead of the Italians to take runners-up place in the Grand Prix. Buzzi Bullet also performed well throughout the weekend, just missing out on third place over the two legs from VoomVoom.com.

VoomVoom.com, piloted by Vee Ganjavian and Charles Williams-Hawkes, had undertaken major development work in the build up to this event, including two new engines. The hard work has started to pay dividends as they followed up an impressive performance on Friday to claim a Grand Prix podium place. The team once again led in the early stages and now look set to play a significant part as the championship moves to Zeebrugge, Belgium, over the weekend of the 8/9 September. With the top three teams, Extremeboat, Roscioli Hotels and Buzzi Bullet separated by just 60 points, it is still all to play for!
