Welcome back to Matthew Flynn and Chris Middleweek, who have arrived back in New Zealand in one piece after the F18 Archipelago Raid Extreme Race in Sweden earlier this month.

We have appointed new Academy coaches for the forthcoming season and are pleased to announce that Grant Nixon will be heading our coaching programme along with his son, Josh and daughter Grace. We are also excited to announce that Adelinde and William our French coaches from last season will be coaching our holiday programme before they finally head back to France and get married.

The Summer Sailing Programme is now up on our web site and there is a very full programme with enough variety to cater for our variety of Yachts, Powerboats and Launches who will be joining in our cruising outings around the gulf.

 Sailing Academy

To all academy sailors,

Now is the time to start thinking about sun water and sailing at Akarana. We have just appointed a new coach for the season and we are excited about what he will bring to the academy.

Grant Nixon will be heading our academy team this season and hopefully many more to come. He lives in Kohimarama with his wife and two children. Josh and Grace are his children and they also will be coaching this season. Josh has just returned from the ISAF Youth worlds representing NZ in windsurfing and has also been to the Optimist worlds representing New Zealand. Grace  is a past Youth Laser radial world champion and has been one of the top NZ girl sailors in Optimist, P class and Laser radials. Grant has been sailing all his life and brings with him many years of sailing experience as well as coaching experience.

We are now planning the summer programme so we need you to register early so we are ready to start on the first day of the fourth term.

I have attached a registration form for you to fill out and send back to the club. We have Optimist coaching as well as Cadet and 420’s. We will also be looking at using our Farr727’s for the older sailors who have come through our programme.

We will also be having a registration and meet the coaches evening on Monday the 10th of September at 7.00pm. Put in in your diary now.

Looking forward to seeing you all then

Kevin Robertson.
