Boats may well be the star attractions when the doors open at Darling Harbour for the 2007 Sydney International Boat Show (August 2-7), but there’s far more to see and do apart from inspecting the latest and greatest boats.
The six cavernous halls of the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre and the floating marina on the waters of adjoining Cockle Bay will be packed to the limit with every style of craft imaginable, together with an astonishing array of engines, marine electronics, fishing tackle, scuba and water ski equipment, nautical clothing and general boating accessories.
Sponsored by Club Marine Insurance and NSW Maritime, this, the 40th show, is expected to attract up to 90,000 visitors.
One very fortunate show visitor will be leaving Darling Harbour as the proud new owner of a $13,000 Evinrude E-Tec outboard engine.
BRP Australia, distributor of the Evinrude E-Tec and Johnson outboard range, together with Sea Doo sport boats and personal watercraft and the exciting Can-Am quad bike range, have offered a sparkling, all-white 90hp Evinrude E-Tec engine, and anyone visiting the impressive BRP stand is in with a chance to win.
It takes only the simple filling in of an entry form, with winner being named on the show’s final day.
Visitors to the BRP stand will be able to see the new line up of Evinrude E-Tec engines , the 40hp, 50hp, 60hp and 75hp models, together with the new 115hp model offering counter rotation and the latest 'big grunt' engines, the 150hp, 200hp and 225hp.
These engines have been designated HO models and HO means High Output for superior speed and acceleration.
While Evinrude E-Tec engines certainly deliver the power and performance boaters demand, they can also lay claim to being the cleanest engines on the waterways.
Evinrude E-Tec are the only outboard engines boasting three-star ultra low emissions across the entire range.
There’s another good reason to visit the BRP display and it has nothing whatsoever to do with boats!
It amounts to the first opportunity for Sydney people to see the innovative and, some would say radical, Can-Am Spyder, hailed as the next dimension in open air riding.
It’s revolutionary technology and brings the active riding style associated with off-road use to the public road.
Don’t miss it.
In fact, show visitors will find something of interest around every corner at the Sydney International Boat Show.
This year, show organiser, the Boating Industry Association of NSW, has engaged dot com companies Sail-World and Powerboat-World to coordinate an exciting array of guest speakers to the Strictly Sail and Better Boating Workshop stages.
The speakers will cover every aspect of recreational boating, many of the discussions backed up with spectacular video.
Another certain to attract its usual standing room-only audiences will be the Yamaha Fishing Clinic, with some of the finest exponents of angling on hand to give advice and demonstrations on how to put more fish on the dinner table.
Everyone in the family will be catered for at the daily Musto fashion parades showcasing the latest in nautically inspired sportswear for men, women and children, while for laughs galore as well as education the Boat Building Competition (staged on the Saturday) is not to be missed.
From canoes and kayaks to multi-million dollar megayachts, the Sydney International Boat Show does indeed have something for everyone.
The show will open daily at 10am; activity in the halls of the exhibition centre will continue through to 8pm, but operations will cease on the marina at 6pm.
Admission charges comprise $18 (single adult), $42 (family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children aged 6-17 years), $16 (Senior Card holders), $12 (Pensioners) and $10 (children aged 6-17 years).
Children under 6-years admitted free.
Darling Harbour is easily accessed by all manner of public transport and there is ample parking for motorists throughout the precinct, all within a few minutes walk of the main entrance.
