Solo Northern Travellers Series at Crosby SC

by Ian Middleton on 22 May 2007
The fifth event in the Solo Northern Travellers Series took place on Sunday 20th May at Crosby SC. Eighteen visitors joined five Crosby boats, for their annual Open. This was the largest turnout so far this year.

With the sea breeze filling in on time for race 1, the fleet was over eager to be off resulting in a general recall.

Mike Hobin, an ex Crosby member had travelled all the way from Oxford and led from start to finish. Paul Allen and Chris Gillard followed him home.

After the famous lunchtime BBQ, race 2 was held in a strengthening breeze. There was yet another general recall before the start and again the race was led by Hobin, followed by Hamish Gledhill and Ian Middleton, with Ian fighting off Tony Hanan, Allen and Gillard.

Race three saw Hobin deciding to this one out and the beat was set to use the full length of the lake. Gledhill won this, from Oliver Dumbleton and Martin Hartley.

The results were:-

1st Mike Hobin Oxford SC
2nd Hamish Gledhill West Riding SC
3rd Paul Allen Leigh & Lowton SC
4th Chris Gillard Sheffield Viking SC
5th Martin Hartley West Kirby SC
