SAP Ausmaid's Sailing master Roger Hickman was keen today to show the that the 2000 Sydney to Hobart winner could beat the little guys on a running and reaching course.
Yesterday the 1993 Hobart Winner Micropay Cookoo's Nest, later campaigned as Rapscallion by Dick Voerdehake now sailing as Interum had taken the handicap win from the Tasmanian Farr 1104 Invincible which had previously had bullets.
But today the big guys came through for the first time in the regatta
SAP Ausmaid and 1993 Hobart Line Honours winner Ninety-Seven stretched away on the long beat up the Molle shores. However it was a different matter on the runs. Voerdehake now driving the Farr 47 Ninety Seven looked back at his old boat, the little Lyons 40 Interum making big gains on the run. Craig King reported that between DayDream and Pioneer Rock, Interum did not drop below 14 knots.
But she was not able to gain sufficient time to catch her larger rivals on handicap.
SAP Ausmaid won from Ninety-Seven and then Interum
