Splash Nationals heat up at Takapuna

by Splash Class on 28 Feb 2007
Ben Lutz racing in the Splash Travellers Trophy at Takapuna Neil Deverell

Racing will be under away in the Splash National Championships at 10am Saturday. All skippers will be prepared for a nine race battle off Takapuna beach, which is also a selection trial for the 2007 World Championships

37 sailors from six countries will compete in the event.

Red hot favorite is Kayne Jacobson who was 13th at the last world championships, however, hot on his heals will be another world rep sailor, Spencer Loxton.

Top girl Keziah Deverell also could be a threat for line honours if conditions are right, along with club mate from Taipa, Ben Lutze, who at the last month's regatta at Takapuna was able to pull it out of the bag and win.

The dark horse would have to be the steadily improving, Michael Cate, from Onerahi.

Weather forecast is looking good and this will be a fun event for the 36 sailors representing 14 yacht clubs, from Nelson in the south, to Taipa in the north.

The responsive Splash class yachts are evenly matched, and they are a joy to sail and will be a true test this weekend of the sailors' ability!
