Racing winch development at Lewmar has certainly intensified over the last year with another six new Grand Prix (GP) carbon fibre winches now available.

One of these new winches is the GP 99, especially developed to offer powerful, lighter weight, yet flexible trimming solutions on the very latest VO70’s and Open 60’s. The 99 will also make its debut as a Primary and Mainsheet winch on the new Juan K designed IRC Bounder, due for launch this March.

With a 225-mm drum diameter and a power ratio of 101:1, the 99 has a wide bearing stack to enable it to accept lines led from any angle – ensuring an efficient system when cross sheeting. It is available as a primary 99/3 three-speed winch with cleat top and dual-direction ratchet sheave base or as a three-speed self-tailer.

Explains Matt Johnston, Lewmar’s custom sales manager; 'Lewmar’s Grand Prix Carbon Winch range continues to grow thanks in part to its outstanding performance in competition over the past 12 months. The range is being expanded to suit new classes and applications, offering superior power to weight ratios, but still with the world-renowned reliability and simplicity that a Lewmar Winch offers.'

Lewmar’s Carbon Winch range now includes models 50, 60, 68, 99, 115 and 120. These winches have been developed for the latest generation GP42’s, TP52’s, Open 60’s, VO70’s, 100-ft. Maxi’s, as well as the globe-conquering multi-hulls.

Lewmar, the world’s premier leisure marine equipment supplier, designs, manufactures and distributes winches, hardware, hatches, port lights, steering systems, bow thrusters, anchoring and windlass products, along with other marine hardware. The company is the most recognised name in control-focused boating equipment. In 2006, its OneTouch winch handle won the top DAME award, the most globally competitive prize for marine equipment, at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam. Manufacturing is located at two sites in the U.K. with sales and assembly offices in France, The Netherlands, Australia, and the U.S. Lewmar also sells through a worldwide network of agents and distributors.
