Dunning-Beck wins North Island Optimists

by Sail-World on 20 Nov 2006
Logan Dunning-Beck is all smiles after placing third in the final race of the 2006 Optimist Nationals at Torbay. His win at the 2006 North Islands in Taupo is his best result to date. Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz

Logan Dunning-Beck won the North Island Optimist Championships sailed at Lake Taupo on Saturday and Sunday. Dunning-Beck won three of the seven races sailed and placed second in the fourth to dominate the regatta.

Second overall was Declan Burn of Murrays Bay/Queen Charlotte YC who sailed a very consistent regatta, to finish with a best place of third in Race 4, but with all his other scoring places in the top ten in each race and generally in the top six.

Winner of the girls trophy was Alexandra Maloney of Murrays Bay/Kerikeri who had two podium places in the open fleet, backing up her second overall in the open fleet at the recent North Island P-class championship in Napier, and was top female sailor in that event as well.

Fourth overall was 2005 Optimist Worlds representative, Chris Steele (Wakatere).

Wakatere's Alex Munro won the Green Fleet event.
