Volvo Ocean Race web site hosting

by Volvo Round the world media on 6 Jul 2001
Nextra AS, which is a part of Telenor Business Solutions, has signed an agreement with the Volvo Ocean Race for the hosting of the official website, www.VolvoOceanRace.org.

The Volvo Ocean Race's web site will be amongst the most visited sports internet domains in the world over the ten month circumnavigation of the globe. Nextra AS has designed a website infrastructure that has ample capacity to meet demand that is expected to peak at 120 million hits per day.

They will manage both Volvo Ocean Race's web hosting and provide web capacity for the delivery of video (called streaming) so audiences all over the world can view action from the competing yachts via their PCs.

'We are very satisfied with the agreement with the Volvo Ocean Race, which we see as a confirmation that Nextra is among the leading suppliers of hosting and streaming services,' said Diego Mackee, Head of Sales and Marketing at Nextra AS. 'We have delivered equivalent video services to the 'Big Brother' TV series in Norway, and the agreement demonstrates that we have the capacity and the competence to deliver some of the market's most advanced solutions.'

Commenting on the new appointment Helge Alten, Chief Executive of the Volvo Ocean Race, said, 'Our internet site is a very important part in the worldwide communication of the Volvo Ocean Race. We will have teams working day and night during the race to ensure that the very latest information, pictures and reports are online but to underline all that, you require the very best technical host, which is why we have contracted Nextra AS. Their technology will allow anyone, anywhere in the world at anytime to access that information quickly and without problems at our end'.
