Kiwis lead after day one at Star World Champs
New Zealandhas made a bright start to the Star World Championship sailing regatta in San Francisco. Hamish Pepper and Carl Williams have celebrated their first ever appearance at the world champs, by winning the opening race of the regatta, while fellow kiwis Rohan Lord and Miles Addy have finished third.

Lord and Addy started better of the two kiwi crews, rounding the first mark in second place, and had grabbed the lead by the halfway mark. However, Pepper and Williams were never far behind, rounding the first mark in fifth place, before moving into second behind their fellow kiwis at mark two.

The two crews maintained their positions around the third mark, before Pepper and Williams made their move to take the victory, while Lord and Addy slipped back to third. The third kiwi crew at the regatta did not fare quite so well, with Steve Johnson and Stephan Cohen finishing 58th.

IFDS Blind Sailing World Championship 2006

The teams of Norway, New Zealandand USA-Florida took to the top steps of the podium in the B1, B2 and B3 divisions respectively at the IFDS Blind Sailing World Championship in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. New Zealandwere presented the Squadron Cup for the best overall team performance.

For the final day of racing at the Blind Worlds contested on Narragansett Bay, a dying north easterly briefly kept competitors ashore at New York Yacht Club's clubhouse, Harbour Court as clouds conspired to delay the hoped for sea breeze. Faced with a 500 metre exclusion zone around two cruise ships anchored close to the preferred race area, and flooding tide until late morning, race organizers sent the teams north of the NewportBridgeand, ultimately, three races were successfully completed in a light east south easterly.

New Zealandwas presented The Squadron Cup that rewards the team with the best overall performance across the three divisions: blind (B1), visually impaired (B2) and least visually impaired (B3). More - http://www.sailing.org/default.asp?PID=19429
