Squadron Teams
Vision Yachting
From Simon Minoprio.  After yesterday’s results we had a bit on to qualify into the top eight, we had to win our next two races. The first was against Andrew Arbuzov, we won the start gaining an early advantage but lost the lead by the top mark in the light shifty conditions.

We won our next race against Martin Angsell, winning the start and the favoured side of the race track, we lead from start to finish. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough, as we were on a three way tie for the eighth qualifying spot with Matteo Simoncelli and Martin Angsell, to break the tie they drop the first result of your score card, Matteo and I won our first race and Martin didn’t, so Martin Angsell snaked on through. Tenth out of 12.

This is our last Match Racing event till August and our sixth event in the past 2 month. We had our ups and downs with good results along the way.

4th

Next Haydon, Ryan and I are of to Newport to compete in the Newport to Bermuda Race, Ryan will be on ‘Maximus’, Haydon and I are on a TP52.

ISAF Grade 1 Match Racing - Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy 2006
BMW ORACLE Racing skipper Chris DICKSON (NZL) defeated defending champion Paolo CIAN (ITA) 3-1 in the final of the ISAF Grade 1 Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy to take the honours in Marina di Ravenna, Italy over the weekend.

An exciting final saw a tight tussle between DICKSON and CIAN, but the Kiwi proved too strong, lifting the trophy after defeating CIAN 3-1.

Kiwi Super Maxi – Maximus back in action
New Zealand's EBS Yachting kicked off the 2006 race season this weekend with the New York Yacht Club run Onion Patch Series. The first event of the series was the Round the Island Race which saw the 80 strong fleet start the race in less than ideal conditions with light southerlies.
With conditions so light Maximus had her work cut out to keep pace with some of the lower rated IRC Class 1 boats however she was once again up to the task completing the 21.22nm course in an elapsed time of 3:16:30 just over 4 minuets ahead of nearest Class 1 rival ‘Harrier’.

The team will be hoping conditions improve next weekend as they set their sites on the race record of 53 hours 39 minutes in the Newport - Bermuda race set by Roy Disney’s Pyewacket in 2002.

The Newport Bermuda Race starts on 16 June 2006, commemorating 100 years of this ocean racing classic. A record size fleet is anticipated as yachts from both sides of the Atlantic prepare to take part in the anniversary event.

Starting off Fort Adams, Newport, Rhode Island, the first 15 miles of the race are in the confluence of conflicting tidal currents which could see the fleet set for a tight finish as competitors try take stake their claim on the prestigious Lighthouse Trophies.
